On the record – Kinsman

WHAT: Township trustee meeting Monday

PRESENT: Greg Leonhard, Linda Miller and Fred Stahl

Trustees:

• Were informed by police of problems with trash being dumped at the recycling containers. Leonhard said security cameras were able to catch one person who illegally dumped five to six bags of trash at the site, with officials planning to file charges in Brookfield Eastern District Court. The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District provides the bins;

• Received an opinion from the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office allowing Leonhard to fill in as a volunteer unpaid police officer while a full-time officer who was injured is on sick leave. Officials said the department has been short staffed and Leonhard will help cover shifts. He will receive only his trustee pay;

• Met with representatives of JobsOhio on what they can do to help the township attract new businesses and promote economic development in the future;

• Heard from the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office that the Morford East Road bridge construction project will begin May 1 and take 60 to 75 days to complete. The road is now closed;

• Heard from the park committee on plans to turn a former indoor batting cage at the park into restrooms at the former Joseph Badger school property. Leonhard said donations will cover the project cost as the restrooms can be used for car shows, circus and other events held at the park;

• Announced Birrell’s Ford at the center square will hold a grand opening Saturday and hold a Chinese auction to benefit the Kinsman Police Department’s Shop With Cop program;

• Announced that during the road department open house 10 a.m. April 27, representatives from the county engineer’s office will be on Dellin Thomas Road at 9:30 a.m. to answer questions about a planned Issue 2 safety upgrade. Leonhard said residents are concerned about trees having to be taken down to widen the road.
