Naval ship to bear Cleveland name

WARREN — A U.S. Navy combat ship will bear the name of perhaps the most well-known city in Ohio.

The USS Cleveland will be built on the shores of the Great Lakes in Marinette, Wis., by Fincantieri Marinette Marine Corporation. It will hold the hull number LCS 31.

Over the past five years, Fincantieri Marinette has sub-contracted $14,562,573 to 14 Ohio contractors and suppliers. The ship will be commissioned at the Port of Cleveland before joining its fleet in Mayport, Fla, when it’s complete.

Construction of the Freedom class Littoral Combat Ship will begin soon.
