McDonald board OKs administrators’ pacts

McDONALD — The McDonald Board of Education on Tuesday approved new contract agreements for school district administrators.

Superintendent Kevin O’Connell was granted a five-year contract and High School Principal Gary Carkido, Roosevelt Elementary Principal Eric Jones and Director of Student Services Jessica Krumpak all received three-year contracts.

O’Connell’s new 260-day contract will be from Aug. 1, 2019, to July 31, 2024. He will be paid $94,500 for the 2019-20 school year, $96,863 for the 2020-21 year, $99,284 for the 2021-22 year, $101,766 for the 2022-23 year and $104,310 for the 2023-24.

Carkido’s 220-day contract is at $87,366 annually, Jones’ 205-day contract at $83,957 annually and Krumpak’s 215-day contract is $76,217 annually, each effective Aug. 1, 2019, to July 31, 2022.

In other business, the board:

• Adopted an updated policy from the Ohio School Board Association on students using electronic communication equipment in school. O’Connell said students are permitted to bring cellphones to school but depending on each teacher’s classroom rules determines if they are allowed to be used in that classroom;

• Approved the 2019-20 school calendar, with first day for students Aug. 21 and last day May 28;

• Hired Jeannine Frederick as substitute secretary on one-year contract.
