Falls: Residents conserve water

NEWTON FALLS — The village water department is asking residents to conserve water because of technical issues at the Newton Falls plant.

City officials said last week’s snow melt and several days of rain caused silt and road salt to flow into the creek, making it more difficult for the water filter at the plant to work. That causes the plant to produce water at a slower rate and use its reserve of water.

Village officials said conserving water means not flushing the toilet as often, taking a shorter shower and only doing full loads of dishes or laundry. It is unknown how long the conservation request will last.
