Two Trumbull men hold key staff roles

WARREN — Two natives of Trumbull County have prominent roles within the offices of Ohio’s new governor and treasurer.

Dan Tierney, who grew up in Cortland, has been named press secretary for Ohio Gov.-elect Mike DeWine.

In that capacity, Tierney will be the lead spokesperson for the governor and administration to members of the news media. He worked as lead spokesman for DeWine in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office during his tenure there.

Tierney, who attended Lakeview Local Schools and then graduated from Warren John F. Kennedy in 1998, lives in Hilliard with his wife and four children.

Sam Rossi, who grew up in Niles, has been named director of communications for Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague, who was sworn into office Friday.

Rossi, a 2001 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, moves from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, where he worked as press secretary. Before working in the secretary’s office, Rossi served two stints in the Ohio Senate before being named Communications Director at the Ohio Department of Medicaid and later the Director of Government Affairs for the Ohio Association of Health Plans.
