WHAT: Board of Education organizational / regular meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Don Mickel, Misty Berry, Kristina Stephens, Scott Chapman and Kathie Johnson

The board:

• Named Mickel as president and Chapman as vice president;

• Approved Mickel for grounds and safety / security; Stephens, technology and student liaison; Berry, public relations and extracurricular; Johnson, legislative and finances / audit; and Chapman, athletics and representative to Trumbull Career and Technical Center;

• Gave second reading to placing a 4.15-mill, five-year emergency operating renewal levy on the May primary ballot to raise $400,000 annually for needs of the district. Treasurer Mario Nero said with a renewal, there is no increase in taxes;

• Approved the retirement of Bonnie Muresan effective Feb. 28 as guidance secretary / student services after being in the district since October 1995. The board approved reducing the hours of the position from 40 to 25 per week effective March 1;

• Approved a College Credit-Plus agreement with Kent State University to offer high school students the opportunity to earn college credits;

• Approved paying board members $100 per meeting for 12 meetings;

• Accepted a donation of a walnut display table for the wood shop class from John Boos and Co.;

• Set meetings for 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month in the elementary library. The March and September meetings will be held at the Farmington Senior Center.
