Trial date set in Niles murder case

WARREN — A Jan. 7 trial date has been set in the murder case against Robin Luke Caviness, 39, who is accused in the June 11 shooting death of Clayton Bender, 23, of Warren, outside Madden’s Bar and Grill on U.S. Route 422.

Caviness, of Howland, faces two counts of murder, three counts of felonious assault and a charge of illegally possessing a firearm in a liquor establishment. Police say Caviness fired a half dozen shots into a black Cadillac in the parking lot of the bar, striking Bender, who was in the back seat. Bender later died at Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Caviness remains in the Trumbull County Jail on $2 million bond. The case is assigned to Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay.
