Man’s OD leads to Austintown couple’s arrest
Charged with endangering children
AUSTINTOWN — James and Rochell Schell of Yorkshire Boulevard are facing charges after police said they used heroin while Rochell’s 14-year-old daughter was present.
According to a report from Austintown police, James, 40, was found unconscious in his basement from a herion overdose just after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Rochell, 40, also was on heroin and stated she and James had purchased the drugs for $38 in Struthers, the report states.
Officers revived James with two doses of Narcan.
According to Rochell’s statement, she and James snorted the heroin off the dryer in the basement. Thirty minutes later, Rochell’s 14-year old daughter called 911, telling dispatchers that her stepfather had been drinking and passed out.
The Schells also had overdosed in August, the police report states.
They were transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and have since been released. The couple is being charged with drug abuse, endangering children and inducing panic.
Both are due for arraignment Monday and were released on bond from the Mahoning County Jail on Thursday, court records show.
