WHAT: Board of Education meeting Tuesday
PRESENT: Betsy Dunn, Steve Gilanyi, Al Haberstroh, Richard Selep and John Shaffer
The board:
• Discussed the defeat of a 3.85-mill renewal levy for four years to raise $250,000 annually. Dunn said a levy will be placed on the May primary ballot since the money is needed for the day-to-day needs of the schools. No official action was taken on a levy;
• Were officially removed from the Ohio Improvement Plan Process as the district’s state test scores have been up. The district was under the plan until test scores improved;
• Approved Mark Hertzerr as a maintenance supervisor at $40,000 per year on a two-year contract;
• Approved Sarah Brown on a one-year contract as secretary / registration coordinator at the elementary school to fill a vacancy;
• Recognized students Emily Proverbs and Cole Saxion for participating in the Ohio Music Educators Association District 5 Honors Band at Stambaugh Auditorium;
• Reported high school teacher Renee Karr hosted two career / college days for students, bringing in 27 speakers and college representatives;
• Approved an agreement with Homes for Kids / Child and Family Solutions for services to the district.
