NEWTON FALLS — Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday with head injuries after driving off the road at state Route 534 and East River Road.

Charles Braucher, 84, of Warren, and a 48-year-old female passenger, called 911 and said he hit a wall, according to a call summary. The passenger was barely speaking and moaning, the summary states.

The pair was found about 100 yards off the roadway in the woods just before 7:45 a.m. and they said they had been there since last night, the summary states. Both were extricated from the 2004 Chevrolet Impala and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital just before 8 a.m., the summary states.

The crash is still under investigation.
