Home considered loss after fire
VERNON — A mother and daughter were left homeless after a fire Saturday evening.
Caitlin Hill, public information officer of the Burghill Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, said firefighters were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. Saturday after a passer-by saw smoke rolling from beneath a mobile home at 5130 Orangeville Kinsman Road. Minutes later, fire was coming out windows on the southwest side of the home.
Firefighters had the blaze under control within 20 minutes of arrival, Hill said.
With heavy fire damage to the bedroom and smoke damage throughout the structure, the home is considered a total loss, she said. A dollar value had not been set as of Sunday evening. Firefighters continue to investigate the cause.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire, but two cats and a dog died inside the mobile home, Hill said. The American Red Cross is offering housing assistance.
Mutual aid came from Johnston, Orangeville, Kinsman and South Pymatuning fire departments.
