BROOKFIELD — Brookfield Superintendent Jo Taylor and Brookfield Elementary principal Stacey Filicky will receive the Patriot Award today for their support of a school employee who serves in the National Guard or Air Force Reserve.

Retired Air Force Col. Chaker Fadel will present the award at an assembly 2 p.m. today at the elementary school, where students and staff will be wearing red, white and blue.

At Brookfield Middle School, Stephen Sambroak works as an intervention specialist and has been deployed in Afghanistan since November 2016. He nominated Taylor and Filicky, his former special education supervisor, because of their efforts to support him through his service as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Air Force Reserves and as a teacher.

Taylor and Filicky are two of 1,200 across the nation selected to receive the award given to outstanding supervisors and bosses, according to a news release.
