WARREN — A city man died Friday after corrections officers at the Trumbull County Jail found him unresponsive in a cell, according to a news release from Trumbull County Sheriff Paul Monroe.
“There were no signs of foul play and it is not appropriate to comment further at this time,” Monroe stated in an email.
Gregory L. Wright, 60, 1756 Sheridan Ave. NE, was found unresponsive in his cell at 12:01 p.m. Friday. Emergency medical responders attempted to save his life before an ambulance took him to St. Joseph Warren Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m., according to the release.
The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death.
Wright was sentenced April 26 to 18 months at the Lorain Correctional Institution, court records show. He pleaded guilty that same day to charges of cocaine possession and failure to comply with the order of a police officer.
Court records show he was ordered to report to the lockup Wednesday morning and was to be transferred to Lorain from there. He had been free on a $25,000 bond.
Wright was indicted on the charges Jan. 4, court records show. The charges stemmed from an incident Nov. 29 in Warren, but a police report was unavailble Friday evening.
Court records also show Wright served 18 months at the Lorain Correctional Institution for a September 1997 conviction on charges of cocaine possession and drug trafficking, to which he pleaded guilty.
