Mother struck by Jeep after theft at store
WARREN — A Cortland woman was injured during a theft at Citi-Trends on Elm Road NE on Thursday, according to a police report.
Katelyn Shields, 24, of Warren, an employee at Citi-Trends, told police she had taken pictures of a woman who put $50 worth of items in her purse around 3:45 p.m. When she realized she was caught, the woman ran to her silver Jeep and backed out of the parking lot, striking Chelsey Hinkle, 24, of Cortland, who was walking out of the store with her two children, the police report states.
The woman continued driving away northbound toward Elm Plaza, and neither she nor the Jeep could be found by police. Hinkle told police she did not have to go to the hospital, the police report states.
