Girard to seek grants for park projects

GIRARD — With the passage of a recreational levy in November, the city will be seeking grant money to help with what officials call ”brick-and-mortar” projects at Liberty Memorial Park.

Mayor Jim Melfi said council’s road committee met Thursday with Dr. Tammy King, a local resident and Youngstown State University associate professor, on seeking grants and funding for improvements to the park roads and pavilion and for installing a security system.

Melfi said the five-year, 0.5-mill park levy will generate approximately $55,000 annually.
