Fri. 11:58 a.m.: Kemari James guilty of killing woman and unborn child in Warren

WARREN — A Trumbull County this morning found defendant Kemari James guilty of five counts dealing with the April 2020 shooting death of a 26-year-old woman and her unborn child at a northwest Warren home.

James, 29, was emotionless as he was led out of the common pleas courtroom in handcuffs after the verdict was read.

The jury took about three hours in reaching their decision.

Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date. James faces up to consecutive life sentences in prison.

James was charged with two counts of murder, one count attempted murder, one count of having weapons while prohibited because of a prior felony conviction, with four firearm specifications, and one count of escape.

He was accused of killing La’Nesha Workman, 26, who was shot at least six times, and causing the death of her unborn child. He also was accused of attempting to shoot Andre Haynes, attempting to take several items from Haynes and leaving the county without telling his probation officer.
