Fri. 11:36 a.m.: Traffic stops net drugs, police say

WARREN — City police officers discovered a large amount of suspected methamphetamine and heroin on the floorboard of a Chevrolet Cobalt that was stopped Thursday near the Warren Heights apartment complex.

Officers pulled the vehicle over after 10 a.m. in the parking lot in the 400 block of Maryland Street NW, the report states. The driver, identified as Tyrin Blackwell Sr., 27, was detained on a charge of driving under suspension.

As officers searched the vehicle they observed two bags on the driver’s floor board — one containing suspected crack and the other what appeared to contain heroin. Next to the bags were a box of plastic sandwich bags, latex gloves and a digital scale.

On the passenger side floor board, an officer located a large bag of suspected meth weighing about 94 grams. A field test found it tested positive for meth, the report states. The other suspected drugs were submitted to a lab for positive testing.

Blackwell pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated trafficking and was held on $100,000 bond. His next hearing is set for 10:15 a.m. Sept. 23 before Municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak.

Further charges are pending against Blackwell, who remains in Trumbull County jail, the report states.

An early morning Friday traffic stop by Warren police also netted drugs.

A 2006 Chevrolet Equinox was stopped for suspected speeding about 1:30 a.m. at West Market Street and Delaware Avenue NW, the report states.

The man and woman inside were taken into custody and the vehicle was searched, the report states. A bag of suspected methamphetamine was taken from the back seat and inside a handbag, an officer found a scale, Q-Tips, plastic bags and $120 in cash. Inside another bag, an officer found three metal pipes and a bottle full of pills. Also small amounts of suspected meth were found inside a plastic bag and a folded napkin. Inside a folded card was found suspected heroin, the report states.

No one was taken into custody, the report states, but charges are pending based on lab results.
