Brookfield man guilty of sexual assault

WARREN – A Brookfield man pleaded guilty today to two felony charges connected to the sexual assault of a female relative.

John Emery, 54, of Warren Masury Road, will be sentenced by Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by the Adult Probation Department.

Emery, who pleaded guilty to charges of rape and sexual battery, could get a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison, Logan said. The defendant and his attorney John B. Juhasz had agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors in which one count of rape and two counts of sexual battery would be dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea. The plea hearing headed off a jury trial scheduled for this week.

The judge continued Emery’s $50,000 bond, which was posted more than a year ago, according to court records. The terms of the bond included that Emery have no contact with the victim and he is under electronically monitored house arrest.

The offenses occurred in November 2018 and were investigated by detectives with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s office.
