Mon. 9:17 a.m.: Mercer County man found dead in Arkansas after kidnapping had pending charges in Mahoning County

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mercer County man who died Saturday night following a police confrontation in Arkansas over a kidnapped girl, had a pending series of charges in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Arkansas police said William R. Ice, 38, of Jackson Center, Pa., shot a police officer at a McDonald’s restaurant in Lonoke, Ark., as officers confronted Ice regarding a kidnapped girl from North Carolina, according to the Associated Press.

Ice exchanged fire with police before taking off in his vehicle, which shortly after became stuck in a snowbank. Ice was found in the car with what authorities believed to be a self inflicted gunshot wound and died later at the hospital.

Ice was indicted in Mahoning County Sept. 17 for allegedly trying to meet up with what he believed to be an underage child for sex June 30. He also was indicted on other offenses for allegedly trying to flee from police trying to arrest him on the underage-sex charge.
