Work continues on damaged I-680 bridge column

YOUNGSTOWN – The Ohio Department of Transportation has worked since Monday evening to stabilize a bridge column along Interstate 680 that was damaged in a crash earlier Monday, ODOT spokesman Ray Marsch said today.

When the column is sufficiently stabilized, I-680 will reopen to traffic, but until then, it is closed from U.S. Route 62 to the 711 Connector, Marsch said.

He said he cannot estimate how long it will be until the temporary repairs to the bridge column will be finished. The Mahoning Avenue Bridge above the column also remains closed today, Marsch said. ODOT also is working to prepare plans for long-term repairs to the bridge, Marsch said.

The detours are as follows:

Northbound: I-680 to Route 62/7, Route 422, Route 193, I-680.

Southbound: I-680 to 711, 422, 193, 62/7, I-680.
