Ohio Turnpike worker tests positive for COVID-19

An employee of the Ohio Turnpike Commission who works at Exit 218 (Niles-Youngstown) has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a letter sent by the commission to employees.

“This employee is doing well and expected to make a full recovery,” the letter states. “The health and safety of our employees, vendors, contractors and customers is our top priority. Our immediate response has been to take all actions necessary to manage the situation effectively and swiftly. All necessary steps are being taken to promptly inform everyone who may have come into close contact with the affected employee while at Exit 218 so they may self-quarantine and/or seek medical advice or attention, as necessary. Additionally, we are taking steps to further decontaminate the interchange. The Commission will continue to comply with protocol and instructions issued by the Ohio Department of Health (DOH) and the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).”

The letter goes on to remind employees to take their temperature before reporting to an Ohio Turnpike facility.

“Per the recommendation of Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health, anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher should self-quarantine with members of their household and immediately call your doctor to seek medical advice. Please contact your direct supervisor and follow standard procedures for calling off sick,” the letter states.
