Tues. 2 p.m.: High court won’t give Hill a new trial

The U.S. Supreme Court denied one of Danny Lee Hill’s petitions, meaning there is just one more issue left for the federal courts to decide.

Hill’s attorneys asked the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court’s decision refusing to grant him a new trial, but the court decided Monday to deny the petition, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hill was sentenced to death after he was convicted in 1985 for the rape and aggravated murder of 12-year-old Raymond Fife. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals is still considering whether Hill qualifies for the death penalty because of questions about his level of intelligence.
