Fri. 6 p.m.: Gas well explodes in Hartford

HARTFORD — Police and firefighters are going to door-to-door on Bradley Brownlee Road to tell residents to “shelter in place” after a gas well exploded behind D&G Machinery on state Route 7.

According to police scanner traffic, the well is on fire and several departments have been called out to battle the blaze.

Part of the road is closed and residents are being asked to stay in their homes, with the windows and doors closed. They also are being asked to turn off their air conditioning units, according to radio traffic.

The annual Hartford Apple Festival started around the same time as the explosion at the township center, which is less than a mile away.
