Sat. 11:15 a.m.: Heavy morning rains trigger northern Trumbull County flash flooding

KINSMAN – Kinsman is dealing with massive flash flooding today after heavy storms early Saturday that dumped more than 4 inches of rain on parts of Trumbull County according to National Weather Service reports out of Cleveland.

“It looks like a disaster area up here,” said trustee Greg Leonhard. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Leonhard said he’s heard no reports of personal injuries, but residents have told him they had to flee their homes in chest-high water.

Bazetta and Mecca fire departments are on site with boats to help rescue residents who live on Kinsman Lake, where water breached the bridge that is the only access route.

“There are houses five yards from going into the lake,” Leonhard said. “Their backyards are gone.”

Several major roads in the area are closed due to flooding or water damage.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Flash Flood Warning for all of northeastern Trumbull County and southern Trumbull County in effect until 1:45 p.m. today.
