Thurs. 12:25 p.m.: Girard names new superintendent
GIRARD – Just days after learning their superintendent was leaving to take a new position in Austintown Local Schools, members of the Girard board of education wasted no time in naming a replacement.
In a special meeting this morning, the board voted 4-0 to appoint recently hired new high school principal Bryan O’Hara as district superintendent. He will replace David Capuzello who is leaving to take the job as superintendent at Austintown Local Schools.
O’Hara was hired recently to serve as high school principal, but the board has opted instead to move him into the superintendent role. The board awarded him a 5-year contract at a salary of $116,500. He will start Aug. 1.
The board now will go on to advertise and interview for the high school principal position.
Board member Karen Thomas was unavailable to attend this morning’s special meeeting and did not vote.
