Fri. 11:30 a.m.: Man found shot after morning crash

WARREN – A Warren man was found dead in a car that crashed into a house in the 700 block of Tod Avenue SW early shortly after midnight today, police said.

The vehicle’s passenger identified the victim as Khalef Freeman, 37, of 2032 Ferndale Ave. SW, according to the police report.

Officers were responding to reports of shots being fired in the area of Ferndale Avenue and Saratoga Street SW when they were diverted to reports that a vehicle crashed into a house at Tod Avenue SW and Palmyra Road, also on the city’s southwest side.

The report indicates the house was structurally damaged.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found two people inside. Freeman was deceased and a second person, not identified in the report, was conscious.

The passenger told officers that Freeman was shot on Sweetbriar Street SW.

The fire department removed the passenger using a mechanical extraction device and he was transported to the hospital for treatment.
