Thurs. 1:25 p.m.: Accused robber, shooter indicted
WARREN – A Trumbull County grand jury has indicted the man accused of shooting into a Warren bar and subsequently robbing a Howland gas station.
The indictment comes ahead of Ryan Rulong’s Warren Municipal Court hearing scheduled for today on three counts of attempted murder and three counts of felonious assault. He also is charged with aggravated robbery.
Rulong, 27, is charged in the May 10 shooting at the University At Larchmont sports bar in Warren where three people were injured. He also is facing one count of aggravated robbery for the May 14 daytime armed robbery at True North gas station in Howland, court records show.
Warren police Chief Eric Merkel said last week that Rulong confessed to the shooting at the neighborhood bar after Howland police arrested him in connection to the robbery following a traffic stop of a white pickup police believe was used in both incidents.
Three men inside the bar were treated at area hospitals for minor wounds.
Rulong is now scheduled to be arraigned Friday in the Trumbull Common Pleas Courtroom of Judge Peter Kontos.
