Thu. 2:57 p.m.: Man charged with vehicular homicide in fatal crash

MESOPOTAMIA – A man from Minvera faces a charge of vehicular homicide in connection to a May 31 fatal crash involving a logging truck in Mesopotamia.

Gilbert Chaidez, 25, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor Thursday in Newton Falls Municipal Court, where he is due back for a pretrial on Sept. 28, according to court records.

Chaidez, who suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, is free on a personal recognizance bond.

Killed in the crash was a passenger in the SUV driven by Chaidez, Lindsay Chaidez, 28, also of Minerva, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
