Fri. 10:51 a.m.: State trooper dragged by vehicle, received minor injuries

YOUNGSTOWN – A state trooper was dragged about 1.5 miles Thursday by a vehicle that was stopped just before 11:30 p.m. on Kirk Road near Meridian Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canfield.

According to the patrol, during the stop, which was initiated for driving without headlights, the driver, instead of getting out of the vehicle as was asked, drove off. The trooper held on and the driver eventually slowed down to the trooper let go of the vehicle.

A second trooper followed shortly until the vehicle was out of sight, according to the patrol.

The trooper was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with minor injuries. Police have identified the driver of the vehicle that drove off, a 2006 gray Ford 500, but are not releasing it.
