Tues. 5 p.m.: Fire damages Howland home

HOWLAND – A bedroom fire caused an estimated $12,000 in smoke damage this afternoon to a Hunters Trail home.

Howland and Cortland fire departments responded to the fire at 8443 Hunters Trail SE earlier today. Crews encountered smoke in the house and a fire in a bedroom.

One of the home’s occupants was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for smoke inhalation, where she was treated and released, according to Howland Fire Lt. Jim Williamson.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious.
