Fri. 11:51 a.m.: Infante given 10 years in prison

WARREN – Ex-Niles Mayor Ralph Infante was sentenced to 10 years in prison today after his conviction on 22 of 32 counts in his political corruption and gambling trial.

Infante, 62, wearing an orange jumpsuit given to inmates in the Trumbull County Jail, asked the court for forgiveness and said he’s humiliated for his family and Niles, which he was mayor of for 24 years.

Infante on Monday was found guilty on 13 tampering with records charges, two gambling charges and two charges of operating a gambling house, two counts of theft in office, one count of unlawful interest in a public contract, one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and falsification.

Former Niles auditor Charles Nader will be sentenced on a felony charge of theft in office and two misdemeanor charges of misrepresentation by a public employee. He faces a maximum 18 months in prison.

Infante’s wife, Judith, plead guilty to one felony falsification charge and a misdemeanor falsification charge. She is scheduled to be sentenced by Cosgrove at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
