Sweet game night planned
CANDYLAND EVENT: Vienna United Methodist Church, 4265 Warren Sharon Road, will have a life-sized Candyland Game 3 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The event is free. Cookies and cocoa will be available.
VIENNA HOSTING CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION: The Vienna Christmas in the Park celebration will be noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the township center. The Vienna Historical Society’s Copper Penny Lodge will be opened during the event. There will be building tours and discussion of cemetery registration projects.
HOMETOWN HOLIDAYS: The fifth annual Hometown Holidays Celebration will be Saturday in and around historic downtown Warren. The event will include a parade, Santa Claus, ice sculptures, light show, horse and carriage rides, and ornament making. Floats in the parade will be judged with the goal of encouraging hometown pride, community spirit and holiday cheer.
POP-UP FUNDRAISER: The Howland Historical Society will host a Christmas pop-up rummage sale 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Andrews / Jones Historic House, 9441 King Graves Road, at the corner of Howland Wilson Road. Christmas decorations, housewares and many other items will be for sale. Bring your pennies and contribute to the “Pennies for Principle” campaign to lower the debt on the mortgage for the Andrews / Jones house. A vintage jewelry sale also will take place.
WARREN MUSIC CLUB: The Warren Music Club, a member of the Ohio and National Federation of Music Clubs, will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Karl and Jeannine Morris. The program, open to the public, will include an ensemble of students from the Amanda Beagle Voice Studio in Howland singing “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin. Beagle will sing “I Wish You Christmas” by John Rutter, the “Christmas Song” and “Santa Baby” that she will sing for the Youngstown Symphony concert at Stambaugh Auditorium on Dec. 22. Attendees will sing “The Star of the East,” a song about peace, hope and joy for the Song of the Month, and Ben Olsen will read “Jest ‘fore Christmas” for Music in Poetry. A Christmas carol sing-along will be accompanied by Karen Hunt and Elaine Maki. Santa will bring gifts to the attendees as they sing “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Dessert and refreshments will follow the program.
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: The Shenango Valley Chorale will bring its “A Classic Christmas” program at 7:30 p.m. Friday to Hubbard St. Patrick Church, 225 N. Main St. Admission is $15 for adults and children under 12 are free. Tickets will be available at the door.
HARP RECITAL: A harp recital by Kirk Kupensky from the Shenango Valley Chorale will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard. Admission is free.
CREATIVE WRITING GROUP: The Unity Spiritual Center, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road in Liberty, will host a monthly creative writing group 6:30 to 8 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. Participants are asked to bring a notebook and pen and laptops as well as any writing to be shared with the group. Terry Newman, a local author, will be facilitating.
