Seeing eye: McKinley High School student art show is Wednesday

ART SHOW: Art students at Niles McKinley High School will showcase their work at an art show 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the high school cafeteria.

SCRAPPERS EGG HUNT: The Scrappers will host the annual egg hunt at Eastwood Field in Niles at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Gates open at 5 p.m. The first egg hunt is at 6 p.m. There will be three age groups, 1-4, 5-8 and 9-12.

There will be a variety of activities for children, including photos with the Easter Bunny and Scrappy, face painting and balloon twisting.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and are on sale at the Scrappers front office and online at mvscrappers.com Children and adults will need a ticket.

PACKARD GOES TO WAR: Charles Ohlin will present a program “Packard During World War II” when he speaks to the World War II Heritage group April 21 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. The presentation will be preceded by a buffet dinner for which reservations are required by contacting Dave Frank at 330-757-0515 by Thursday.

Ohlin will describe wartime production at Packard Electric in Warren and the Packard Motor Car Company, based in Detroit.

The PowerPoint program is highlighted by a short newsreel titled “Men Bet Their Lives on It.”

A lifetime resident of Warren, Ohlin is the director of education and historical research at the National Packard Museum of Warren.

He has maintained a private law practice in Warren since 1988, and has served as an adjunct professor at Kent State University, where he has taught a course in business law and ethics since 2014.

His museum research partner, Cindee Mines, also will assist during the presentation.

PUZZLE PARTY: McKinley Memorial Library presents Puzzle Party 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles.

Participants will work on jigsaw puzzles and chat with other jigsaw enthusiasts. Use the puzzles provided or bring your own. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3.

TEEN SCENE BAD ART: McKinley Memorial Library presents Teen Scene 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. Teens ages 12 to 18 are invited to create their own works of wildly “bad” art using an assortment of arts and crafts materials.

Pizza and snacks will be served.

All supplies will be provided. Registration is recommended at 330-652-1704, ext. 4.

KIDS CLUB: McKinley Memorial Library presents Kids Club 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles.

Children ages 5 to11 are invited the first and third Thursday of every month to enjoy a fun activity related to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

This week, students will learn about density and create their own dragon eggs by transferring marbled designs onto eggs with nail polish. Registration for this program is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 4.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Habitat for Humanity of the Mahoning Valley is accepting applications for its homeownership program, including two new homes in 2025. To become a future Habitat homeowner, applicants must meet several requirements, including having a housing need.

The upcoming new homes available for potential families will be built in Warren and Lordstown during 2025 and in Boardman during 2026.
