Lordstown hosts Apple Festival

WEEKEND OF FUN: The Lordstown Apple Cider Festival will be Friday to Sept. 25 at the Lordstown school grounds, corner of state Route 45 and Salt Springs Road. There will be a parade, fireworks and craft show, rides by McGinnis Amusement Company, car show, king and queen pageant at 2 p.m. Saturday and little prince and princess 5 p.m. Saturday, and fireworks Saturday. There will be a parade with grand marshal George and Sharon Ebling at 4 p.m. Sept. 25. For information, call Sharyn Dietz at 330-824-2650.

The event will include a 5K run sponsored by the Lordstown High School athletic department at 10 a.m. Sept. 25. Plaques will be given to the top three finishers in mens and womens division. Registration is $25 the day of the race and $20 advance. For information, call 330-824-2540.

SOCIETY HOSTS PICNIC: The Champion Historical Society will host the annual picnic and social gathering 6 p.m. Wednesday at the One Room School House adjacent to the township cemetery. Those attending can bring a lawn chair.

VOTER REGISTRATION: The League of Women Voters of Trumbull County will host a voter registration day 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the front entrance of Boscov’s at the Eastwood Mall in Niles. National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday.

SOCIETY HOSTS OPEN HOUSE: Braceville Historical Society will host an open house at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at the township hall, Braceville Robinson Road.

SOCIETY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: Trumbull County Historical Society is seeking Oktoberfest volunteers 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 24 at Courthouse Square, Warren. There are two shifts: 3:30 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers can help with merchandise sales, or act as food and beer servers. Call 330-394-4653.

BENEFIT PLANNED: A bingo and basket raffle benefit for Amy Mackey, who recently died of cancer, will be 5:30 p.m. with bingo at 6 p.m. Saturday at Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 26 W. Wilson Ave., Girard. Entrance fee is $10. Mackey joined the Girard Eagles Auxiliary 2172 in 1985. She was the auxiliary secretary for the past 10 years. Donations are being sought for the event. KIDS IN KITCHEN: Girard Free Library will host Kids in the Kitchen 4 p.m. Thursday. Library staff will lead the children through basic recipes. Sign up at the library by Tuesday.

SAR TO MEET: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host a luncheon Saturday hosting the Mahoning Valley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The Samuel Hubbard Scott flag collection, which belongs to SAR, is now on display at the museum.

WOMEN DETECTIVES: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will present “The Woman Detective in Popular Culture” 2 p.m. Saturday, Speaker is Linda Mizejewski, an author and professor of women’s studies at the Ohio State University, who will discuss how women detective characters at the box office and on television are portrayed. RALLY DAY: Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2742 North Road NE, Warren will host Rally Day at 9 a.m. today and a bonfire hymn sing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

GARDENING PROGRAM: Girard Free Library will host a “Putting Your Garden to Bed” program 6 p.m. Thursday at the library. Trumbull County Master Gardener Wanda Thomas will be speaker. The presentation will provide a checklist of getting your garden ready for winter and getting a jump start for spring.
