ADVENT PROGRAM: St. Columba Cathedral in downtown Youngstown will host its annual festival of Lessons and Carols at 6 p.m. Sunday. The program will feature readings and music by the cathedral choir under the direction of music director Dr. Dan Laginya. The program is free and open to the public.

RE-CREATION TO PERFORM: Howland United Methodist Church, 730 Howland Wilson Road NE, will host Re-Creation in Concert for a Christmas program 1 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $7 per person and are available at the church with money to help Re-Creation perform for hospitalized veterans.

APPRECIATION PRAYER: Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 2821 Hillman St., Youngstown, will host a preappreciation prayer luncheon 2 p.m. Dec. 4 for the Rev. Clifford Kimbrough. STORY OF DAVID: Torah Studies for Christians will present “The True Story about David” 7 p.m. Wednesday via Zoom as part of virtual series. The Bible education series is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on the Scripture using video resources from various scholars. A free-will offering will be accepted. Rev. George Balasko is the co-creator of Jewish / Christian Dialogue with the late Rabbi Samuel Meyer of Temple El Emeth in Liberty. He is the founder, general editor and producer of a continuing education program in cooperation with Abba House Communications, and for more than 20 years has served as host and producer of the “Jewish/Christian Dialogue” network television series, which airs in several markets around the world.

The next program is “St. Augustine and the Jews” on Jan. 5.

CHRISTMAS IN CITY: St Jude Roman Catholic Parish, 180 Seventh St. in Columbiana, will host a “Christmas in the City” event 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Admission is free. The event will include area crafters / business vendors and home-based businesses. Event organizers also will collect new unwrapped toys for Toys For Tots.

CHURCH ON NORTH ROAD: Blessed Sacrament Parish, Reeves Road, Warren, will host “North Road Christmas” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4. It will feature a pancake breakfast, hot chocolate bar, Santa photos, carriage rides, a petting zoo, craft show, cookie walk, kid’s craft shop and a nativity display. A live nativity pageant presented by students of the parish will begin at 1:30 p.m.

FIRST FRIDAY CLUB: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown Speaker Series will be noon Thursday at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The series is held the first Thursday of the month. Guest speaker is Theresa Dellick, judge of the Mahoning County Juvenile Court, who will speak on “Being Trauma Informed.” Audience questions will be taken. Cost is $18. Call 330-720-4498. MINISTRY PROGRAM: Word of Life Christian Center, 127 Wasser Road, Greenville, Pa. will host the ministry of the Rev. John Merola at 10 a.m. Dec. 5.

CHURCH CONCERT: First Baptist Church of Niles, 26 E Church St.,will host a Christmas concert with Timothy and Hosanna Noble at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.

CHRISTMAS REMEMBRANCE: A Christmas ornament remembrance prayer service will be on the Feast Day of St. Nicholas, 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6, at all four of the Diocesan cemeteries: Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta and Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.

FREE LIVE DRIVE-THRU NATIVITY: Bazetta Christian Church, 4131 Hoagland Blackstub Road, will have a drive-thru nativity 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 19 at the church. The free drive-thru event will feature re-enactors and live animals, including camels.
