McDonald celebrating Oktoberfest on Saturday

VILLAGE COMES TOGETHER: McDonald Village will hold an Oktoberfest celebration 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Park off Ohio Avenue.

The event will include a parade at 10:30 a.m., as well as food, a petting zoo, live music and bounce houses. There will be a craft show 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and children’s activities 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is being presented by McDonald Village Council, fire department and Fraternal Order of Police.

COAT DISTRIBUTION: The Warren Family Mission, 155 Tod Ave., Warren, will hold a winter coat distribution 1 to 3 p.m. today. Items available will include coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets.

BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Hubbard Library will hold a mobile book sale 10 a.m. to 4 pm. Saturday during the Hubbard Shop Small Fall. Vendors and other events will be located at the intersection of Liberty and Main streets, Tylee Park and other nearby areas.

Proceeds from the book sale benefit the library programs and events.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Wildare United Methodist Church, 7211 N. Park Ave., Champion, will pack Operation Christmas Child boxes 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the family life center.

Church members donated hundreds of items to fill shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Boxes will be sent around the world as part of Samaritan’s Purse missions.

Individual boxes can be tracked to see what country and region the box goes to.

NEW CENTER OPENS: The Professional Development Center held a ribbon-cutting this week for its new Trumbull County Job Placement Welcome Center, 237 Main Ave. SW, Warren.

The PDC’s Welcome Center enables residents to walk in and have access to immediate job opportunities. The Welcome Center is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The PDC works with various national and local employers to meet their job demand. PDC case management services help individuals become prepared and qualified for employment by providing an array of financial support services and a variety of pre-employment trainings and workshops that employers require of job candidates prior to employment.

BIGFOOT SPEAKER: Matt DeWerth, an Ohio curator for the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, will speak 10 a.m. Saturday at the Chad Anthony’s Grille Meeting Room, 4698 Belmont Ave., Liberty, as part of the monthly William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society’s Memories of a Lifetime lecture series. The program is part of the society’s 60th anniversary celebration.

DeWerth of Columbia Station has spent more than 30 years researching Ohio’s own Sasquatch, known as Grassman.

All programs are open to the public with member admission $5 and nonmembers $10. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.
