Ribbon-cutting ceremony set for church in Warren
WARREN — Greater Apostolic Faith Church / Mercy In Action Ministries will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony 10:30 a.m. Sunday as part of Family and Friends Worship Day.
The event will be in the church parking lot with those attending asked to dress casually and bring umbrellas.
The public is welcome. Free refreshments and gift baskets and cards will be available.
The joint church service with keynote speaker Pastor Steve Kline from Mercy In Action and Pastor James L. Tyson of Greater Apostolic Faith Church acknowledges their partnership and commitment in working together.
“This Sunday, Pastor James Tyson and I are taking our first steps together as neighbors. We are walking side by side to bring our churches together and celebrating under the umbrella of Jesus Christ. We have a monumental opportunity to literally build a bridge and unite our cultures,” Kline said.
The Greater Apostolic Faith Church’s theme for Sunday is “Bridging The Gap,” which is defined as diminishing the differences and creating a connection between groups, organizations, schools and in this case, two brick churches standing beside each other.
“We are looking forward to Pastor Steve and the members of Mercy In Action Ministries joining us in worship on Aug. 1. What would God think of two churches sitting right next to each other, less than 100 feet apart and never praying together, serving together or worshipping together? The cocoon of denominationalism and racism has done nothing but divided and separated the Body of Christ,” Tyson said.
“I believe that we can break down the barriers of denominations and come together and serve the same God,” Angela Wells, president of the worship team at Greater Apostolic Faith Church, said.
