MEN OF FAITH: Trumbull County Men of Faith will meet 9 a.m. Aug. 7 at 3217 Surrey Road SE, Warren, with guest speaker Fred Schrock, an American Christian whose life had been spared twice in the Vietnam War. Schrock served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Field Medic.

He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, president of Mahoning Veterans Memorial and active in other veteran organizations like the United Veterans Council.

Schrock retired from General Motor of Lordstown. He is ordained by the Greenford Christian Church in Christian ministry serving on the pastoral care team and the “Grief and Share” team.

Schrock will be speaking on his war experiences and Christian ministry.

BAND PERFORMS: Cortland Community Band will present a free summer concert 7 p.m. Wednesday on the side lawn of the First Methodist Church on North High Street, Cortland. The 38-year-old band has been rehearsing at the Cortland Opera House this summer after a break because of the pandemic. Garey Watson will direct the band, which will play favorite music: show tunes, easy listening and stirring marches. Band members include musicians from teenagers to senior citizens. Guests should bring folding chairs. Church members are providing ice cream for the event.

PRAISE ON PATIO: “Praise on the Patio” Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will host a hymn sing 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, 22 Westview Ave. The 45-voice choir will sing classic, gospel and contemporary hymn favorites. Guest musicians will accompany on keyboard, guitar, flute and percussion. The event is free and will be outside. It will be moved inside in the case of inclement weather. Some seating is available, but guests should bring a lawn chair just in case.

GUEST SPEAKER: Reed’s Chapel AME Church, 1939 Jacobs Road, Youngstown, will have guest speaker, the Rev. Dr. Samuel Olarewaju, 11 a.m. Aug. 8. The theme is “We are the Light of the World.”

GIFT OF LOVE: St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church, 3487 Old Forge Road, Rootstown, is hosting “A Gift for Love” for Synthia, an event filled with food, music and fellowship noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 8. Tickets are $15 at 330-307-1988.

CONCERT: Pleasant Valley Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, will host a free concert with Lindell Cooley 6 p.m. Aug. 20.

ASSUMPTION CELEBRATION: Christ the Good Shepherd-St. Lucy Church, 394 Tenney Ave., Campbell, will host a traditional Assumption celebration with 11:30 a.m. Mass Aug. 15 with Bishop David Bonnar of the Youngstown Diocese as celebrant followed by the traditional procession through the streets and culminating with a reception at the Palermo Center following benediction. CHARITY EVENT: Warren First Assembly of God, 2640 Parkman Road NW, Warren, will host a charity car and truck show 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today with registration at 9 a.m. Judging will be at 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the church’s missions program. For information, call Don at 330-647-3457.

SOUL COLLAGE: Unity Church Centre in Liberty will offer an online class, “Soul Collage,” 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 28. The method develops creativity and intuition, encourages self-discovery and provides personal guidance.

COMMUNITY EVENT: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a community picnic at noon Sunday, preceded by a service at 11 a.m.

FELLOWSHIP EVENT: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Warren is sponsoring a monthly Community Fellowship Meal at the St. James White Hall on Burton Street at noon starting Aug. 7 and continuing on the first Saturday of each month. The public is welcome.

CONCERT SERIES: Second Baptist Church “A House of Hope,” 1510 Main Ave. SW, Warren, in partnership with 717 Credit Union and BRITE Energy Innovators, presents the “INSPIRE Summer Concert Series: An Immersive Arts Experience” with a concert 6 p.m. Friday at the Warren Community Amphitheater.

INSPIRE was launched in 2019 in honor of the late Clifford and Lillie Johnson, longtime Warren educators and patrons of the arts, and features various forms of artistic presentation by local and national artists. INSPIRE is designed to highlight the diversity of the urban arts community in the Mahoning Valley and support the Vision100 Initiative of Second Baptist Church.

Headlining artist is renowned vocalist Arielle Green, a Youngstown native who performs jazz, pop, and R&B standards.

Tickets are $15 per concert or $25 combo tickets for the Friday concert and Sept. 12 concert featuring Red Hands. Admission is free for students accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased online at www.secondbaptistwarren.com or by calling 330-393-0802 or at the gate.
