SERVICE FOR PASTOR: Faith Fellowship Church of God, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, will hold a memorial service 3 p.m. today for former Pastor Johnathan Mitchell.

In 2020, after being hospitalized more than 100 days battling COVID-19 and other health issues, Mitchell returned to the church to minister last summer. In June 2014, Mitchell became the senior pastor of Faith Fellowship in Youngstown. Through his 42 years of ministry, he was called to the mission field, where he and his wife ministered on the Ivory Coast, West Africa.

SUMMER KICKOFF: Pleasant Valley Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, Liberty, will hold a free Family Summer Kickoff 2 to 7 p.m. today. There will be food trucks, inflatables, pony rides, games and a petting zoo. Visit www.pvchurch.net.

EVENT POSTPONED: The annual Taste of Faiths hosted by the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches will be postponed until spring 2022. The annual event celebrates the foods of the congregations of the Mahoning Valley.

135-YEAR CELEBRATION: First Covenant Church in Boardman will hold its 135th anniversary June 27. The event will include a service at 10 a.m. with guest speakers sharing stories and histories of the church.

BIBLE SCHOOL: Howland United Methodist Church will host VBS 6 to 8 p.m. for two weeks. Week one is Monday, Wednesday and Friday for younger children and Week 2 is June 28, 30 and July 2 for older children. The theme is “Summer Olympics.” Efforts will be made to hold all events outside.

WHEEL MONDAY: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host Unity Wheel Mondays 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the third Monday each month. People can bring an outdoor chair or blanket and any musical instruments they may have. Offering for the wheel can be cornmeal, tobacco, bird seed or anything you think proper to give thanks to the creator.

Plans are to walk the wheel, discovering the meanings of the parts of the wheel, native drumming, smudging and community.

COMMUNITY CONCERT: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, will sponsor a Community Concert 5:30 p.m. June 26. The outdoor concert will feature Nina and Rick Miller performing songs of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. Attendees are invited to bring a lawn chair and also are welcome to picnic with family and friends.

If it rains, the performance will be moved inside. The concert is free but donations will be accepted.

FUNDRAISER SHOW: St. Patrick Parish, 225 N. Main St., Hubbard, will hold a car show fundraiser 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 26. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fire Restoration Fund as the church suffered extensive damage from a fire in January. A $5 donation is requested.

REVIVAL TOUR: A revival tour will be held 7 to 9 p.m. July 2 and 3 at the Newton Falls city hall field.

SHARED PASTOR: Pastor Lizzie Weed of Grace United Methodist Church, 1725 Drexel NW, Warren, has been called to a two-point charge in which she will serve both Grace and also Palmyra United Methodist Church beginning July 4.

To facilitate the appointment, Grace United Methodist will worship at 11 a.m. In the brief interim between end of Sunday school 10:30 a.m. and beginning of the worship service, there will be coffee and fellowship.

SUMMER CAMPS: Pleasant Valley Church in Liberty will host summer camps 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 to 24, with the theme “Fruits of the Spirit.” There will be crafts, music, sports and art. Athletes form Sports World will lead each camp.

LABYRINTH EVENT: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen Road, Villa Maria, Pa., will offer Virtual Introduction to the Labyrinth Journey via Zoom. The virtual labyrinth walk invites participants to walk an ancient path symbolizing cultural passageways.

Future programs during this ongoing series are scheduled on various dates on the grounds of Villa Maria Community Center on July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 19. Guided labyrinth walks are offered free.
