Goodwill’s Gems Jewelry Sale delayed

AUCTION POSTPONED: In an effort to protect the safety of its patrons and comply with the new regulations on large gatherings, Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries Inc. has postponed its 27th annual Gems Jewelry Sale and Charity Auction, which was tentatively scheduled for today at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Goodwill plans to reschedule the event and provide updates on its website regarding details of the new date. All previously purchased tickets will be valid for entry.

SACK LUNCH: First Christian Church, 280 E. Market St., will hold a free hot dog sack lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is a drive-thru only in the parking lot.

MOSQUITO SPRAYING: Cortland city will spray for mosquitoes from 7 p.m. to midnight Wednesday with rain date the following evening. Residents are advised to keep windows closed and pets indoor.

LECTURE SET: Chaya Kessler, director of Jewish Studies at Kent State, will give a virtual lecture about her first language, Yiddish, at 6 p.m. Thursday. Participants will learn a bit of history, a few idioms, and maybe a juicy curse as she shares stories and jokes.
