Step into hip hop at Warren library

BLACK HISTORY EVENT: Step into Hip Hop will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library as part of Black History Month.

Andrea McCormick, teaching artist with Center for Arts-Inspired Learning, will share how the dance style evolved through the decades from African and early American influences. Participants will learn some hip hop choreography and join in the dance.

The event is for children ages 6 to 12 and their families. Registration is required by calling the Youth Services Department at the library at 330-399-8807, Ext. 206.

NEW EXHIBIT: The OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology in Youngstown has a new temporary exhibit, “Velocity,” which is designed to teach the basics of physics. The exhibit will be shown through May.

Children and adults can take part in different activities as they learn about acceleration and distance. The goal of the exhibit is to help children explore the science of motion.

NIGHT AT RACES: Girard FIRST Robotics team will hold a fundraiser “Night at the Races” 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Avon Oaks Ballroom, State Street, Girard. There will also be 50-50 raffles and a basket raffle.

The team will compete in regional matches in March. This event will help raise money for the team to travel to competitions and help in order to qualify for the national competition.

SOCIETY TO MEET: The Dulcimer Society of Trumbull County will meet 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the John Emanuel Senior Center (SCOPE Center), 8273 High St., Howland.

Meetings are open to anyone interested in playing or listening to hammer or fretted dulcimers. Any acoustic instrument welcomed. For information, call Bill Shilling 234-564-3852 or Rosemary Jennings at 330-547-6783.

MILITARY RECORDS: Military Records Class will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library’s History and Genealogy Center, Warren. The class will introduce researchers to military information in print and digital formats available through the center, on the second floor of the library.
