Trumbull Mobile Meals thanks its volunteers

WARREN — Money raised at the Trumbull Mobile Meals annual basket raffle goes to make sure that residents unable to get food are provided healthy meals.

TMM’s 13th annual basket raffle extravaganza and volunteer recognition luncheon were held recently at St. Demetrios Center.

Becky Edwards, TMM’s executive director, said the raffle was the agency’s largest fundraiser this year with more than 115 baskets given away and more than 375 people attending.

“The money raised goes back to helping to provide meals to residents of the county. We have great support from our community. The volunteers who help deliver the meals, the businesses who support us — we appreciate it,” Edwards said.

The goal was to raise $40,000.

Edwards said the volunteers go out of their way to help feed people.

TMM has about 450 local volunteers who help prepare, package and deliver more than 120,000 meals annually county residents who can’t drive to a meal site or food distribution center.

Jean Schlecht, TMM board member and the 2019 basket committee chairwoman, said with 115 baskets there were themes to attract anyone’s interest.

Schlecht, founder of TMM which started in 1970, said: “The program was started mostly by volunteers. They have helped all these years. This event is the largest money-maker.”
