Akron topic of war discussion

VETERANS CELEBRATION: Celebrate Veterans Day early as the Kinsman Free Public Library will host World War II in Ohio at 5 p.m. Monday. Tim Carroll, author of “World War II Akron,” will be at the library to share his research, including such topics as the draft, the use of dogs and blimps, and the deadliest year of the war. The presentation also will include rare photographs of President Roosevelt, Clark Gable and many more. Registration is requested by calling 330-876-2461.

VET CELEBRATION: St. Joseph the Provider Catholic School will hold a Veterans Day celebration 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Anthony Church complex. The event will honor veterans and active military personnel. RSVP at 330-259-0353.

GUEST SPEAKER: Hubbard resident John Raica, commander of Hubbard American Legion, who served in the Army as a photo interpreter, will speak on his career at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hubbard Public Library. Raica joined the Central Intelligence Agency and was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired in 1992 after 30 years.

TMM GALA: Trumbull Mobile Meals will hold its 13th annual Premiere Gala 6 p.m. Saturday at the St. Demetrios Community Center, 3223 Atlantic St. Warren. Cost is $30 per person and $50 per couple. Call 330-394-2538 or email tmmmanager@aol.com.
