Grandson takes over at Leavittsburg church

Founder retiring as senior pastor after 63 years

LEAVITTSBURG — After serving as pastor for 63 years at the Warren Revival Center, Pastor James E. Holbrook will step down as the senior pastor. His grandson, James D. Holbrook, was installed as the new church pastor.

James D. Holbrook, who served for six years as pastor at Church of the Holy Spirit in Warren, was installed Nov. 3.

The Holbrook family states, “The Warren Revival Center builds on a strong past as it transitions into a bright future.”

James E. Holbrook, who founded the church, said while he is retiring, he will still handle visitations to see church members who are homebound, sick or elderly while his grandson, James D. Holbrook, takes over the senior pastor duties.

James E. Holbrook said he looks forward to fulfilling the role of “lead pastor of visitation,” which he said is a vital ministry that is missing from many churches.

As pastor emeritus, James E. Holbrook said he is proud of his longevity in the ministry field.

Church members said in his more than 60 years in ministry, James E. Holbrook is respected not only by the congregation, but at area churches, he is often referred to as “the rock in our community of faith.”

James D. Holbrook grew up in his grandfather’s church, taking part in youth programs such as Royal Ranger and Youth Warriors. He has been a Sunday school teacher, musician and youth leader.

James D. Holbrook received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology at Youngstown State University and a degree in Christian studies from the Sure Foundation Theological Institute. He was ordained into the ministry in 2007. Under his leadership, the youth program was changed to War Zone Student Ministries.

In 2013, the neighboring congregation of Church of the Holy Spirit was in need of a pastor and James D. Holbrook went to the Coit Drive church.

James D. Holbrook said he considered it both an honor and a privilege to have served in that role and now serve in his grandfather’s footsteps and lead the Market Street church.

James D. Holbrook and his wife, Jennifer, have two daughters, Haylee and Sarah.
