Seeing Eye: Learn about Unknown Soldier
HONOR GUARD MEMBER TO SPEAK: Jim Cardoman, a member of the Society of Honor Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, will give a presentation on his experiences while serving at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hubbard Public Library.
FOOD DRIVE AT KENT: Kent State University at Trumbull is holding a food drive through Nov. 1 for the food pantry. Collection bins for food and personal-care item donations have been set up in the administration / classroom building, theater lobby, counseling lobby and front office of the technology building.
BLOCK WATCH TO MEET: Girard second and third wards blockwatches will meet 6 p.m. Thursday at the Girard Free Library. The Girard High School Robocats Robotics Team will give a demonstration.
GREETING CARD CREATORS: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will present Create Your Own Greeting Cards or Gift Tags 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. People can create their own design or select from samples. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required at 330-652-1704 Ext. 3.
WALK TO END ALZHEIM-ER’S: A Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Youngstown State University’s Watson and Tressel Training Site on campus. Check-in is 8:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 9:30 a.m. Register at alz.org/walk. Families and people of all ages are welcome to take part to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s support, research and care. The event is coordinated by the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Eastern Ohio Chapter.
EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT: For his Eagle Scout project, Justin Shorts of Boy Scout Troop 122 in Howland oversaw the construction and placement of a new sign and flagpole in front of the John Emmanuel SCOPE Center and American Legion Post 700 at 8273 High St. NE. The flag is dedicated in memory of members of the Howland American Legion Post 700 John Swenson, a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, and Earl Thomas, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and longtime post chaplain.
TRUNK OR TREAT: Pricetown Church, 4640 Ohltown Road, Newton Falls, will hold a Trunk or Treat 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday for local children.
