Race hot cars on fast tracks

FUN TECHNOLOGY: Silly Science Sunday will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology, 11 W. Federal St., Youngstown.

OH WOW! will spill out into the streets for activities and demonstrations. The WOW! Pals in the facilities department have constructed a two-lane, 1,000-foot Hot Wheels racetrack with a 4-foot loop. Explorers will be able to take their own cars or use one the center will provide.

The free event is for all ages.

TRUSTEES TALK: Brookfield Township trustees will hold a neighborhood “Talk with the Trustees” 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at corner of Warren Sharon Road at Laddies.

SCRAP TIRE: Johnston Township will conduct a scrap tire collection 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

TOLBERT TO SPEAK: Niles Historical Society volunteer Ralph Tolbert will present a program titled “How Urban Renewal Changed Niles Forever” at 7 p.m. Monday in the Westenfield Room on the grounds of the Ward-Thomas House, 503 Brown St., Niles.

Historical photographs from the Niles Historical Society’s collection showing changes in downtown Niles from 1930 to 1976 will be viewed.

Tolbert maintains the society’s website, www.nileshistoricalso ciety.org, produces the society’s newsletter and posts on the Facebook site “I Am So Niles.” He has presented many programs featuring the history of Niles.

DEMENTIA LIVE: The Inn at Walker Mill, a Briarfield assisted living and memory care community, Boardman, is partnering with Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association to offer Dementia Live, a 30-minute high-impact experience to immerse participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it is like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change.

Tours will take place 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at The Inn at Walker Mill, 8060 South Ave., Boardman. Representatives from Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association will be available to provide information and answer questions.

SOCIETY TO MEET: The William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will meet 10 a.m. Sept. 21 in the Kravitz Deli meeting room, 3135 Belmont Ave., Liberty. Memories of a lifetime will be presented by Tim Seman, Youngstown and Mahoning County Library Association geneaology and local history librarian, will trace the founding, growth and development of the library system.

BINGO BASKETS: The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society of St. Rose will sell bingo baskets Sept. 21 at the school gym. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 6. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the St. Rose Church office, 48 E. Main St., Girard.
