Seeing Eye: 12th Buddy Walk set for weekend

BUDDY WALK: The 12th annual Buddy Walk of the Valley will take place 1 p.m. Sunday at Eastwood Field in Niles. Gates open at 11 a.m.

Online preregistration for Buddy Walk has closed, but people can join at the registration tent Sunday. Registration is $13. Limited shirt sizes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event is being organized by the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley.

GROCERY DISTRIBUTION: Deliverance Temple Church, 1849 West Ave., Warren, in conjunction with Youngstown Community Food Center Inc. Gleaners Food Bank, will meet 1:30 p.m. today at the church. Those needing items are asked to bring a state-issued photo ID and utility bill.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE: African-American Heritage Class will be held 6:30 p.m. today at Liberty Library Branch. Participants will learn to trace family history using traditional and digitized resources, including the Freedmen’s Bureau, the African-American Heritage database, and the Unknown No Longer website.

Those taking the class should be familiar with navigating a computer by using a mouse. Registration is required for all classes. Call 330-399-8807, Ext. 202, to sign up for classes at all locations.

DEMYSTIFY ANGELS: The Yoga Center, 972 Youngstown Kingsville Road, Vienna, will hold a workshop to help “demystify” some common expectations about angels and how to connect with them in your everyday life. There will be a meditation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

BARNHISEL OPEN: The Barnhisel House in Girard will be open 1 to 4 p.m. the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Tours are provided by trained docents, who will take visitors through the home and give the history of the area. This year’s theme is “Music, Bands and Clocks” of years ago. COFFEE AND CANVAS: Corner House Christian Church will host Coffee and Canvas, hosted by the Traveling Sisters, 4 p.m. Saturday with staff from Magic Paintbushto create a fall scene.
