Scouts work toward Bronze Award

KINSMAN — Girl Scouts with Troop 80111 wanted to raise awareness of pet safety and care, and held a Pets in the Park fundraiser event to help them earn their Bronze Award in scouting.

The three-hour event held at Kinsman Township Park focused on responsible pet ownership, proper animal care and pet adoption.

The events included informational booths and demonstrations from local organizations, including the Animal Welfare League, Kinsman Library, Aisling Alpaca Farm and Canine Companions for Independence.

The Scouts held a pet toy craft activity, basket raffle, pet play area and pet supply donation dropoff.

Amelia Sanker, a Scout leader along with Christina Stoutt, said the Scouts raised $700 to give to Animal Welfare League, Skunk Haven and Canine Companions for Independence.

“We were fortunate to have many people come here with their dogs. The Scouts came up with the idea to hold this event. They spent months planning for this,” Sanker said.

The Scouts, who will be in fifth and sixth grades, did the project for their Bronze Award.

Sophia Sanker, 11, of Vernon, said the day was fun.

“The Scouts liked putting it all together,” she said.

Kloey Rozanski said, “It was fun getting the animals to the event.”
