WARREN MEETING: There will be a planning committee meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Mocha House, for a proposed discussion of the Crenshaw County, Alabama, families reunion to be held in Warren. FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Deliverance Temple Church, 1849 West Ave., Warren, will hold a grocery item distribution in conjunction with Youngstown Food Center Inc. Gleaners Food Bank 1:30 p.m. today. Those needing items are asked to bring a state-issued identification and utility bill.
HALL OF PRESIDENTS: An opening reception of the Hall of Presidents show by Youngstown artist Christie Galazia at the auditorium of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial grounds in Niles will be held 6 to 8 p.m. June 27. The watercolor and ink series was inspired by the closing of a wax museum in Gettysburg that went by the same name. The original Hall of Presidents consisted of wax figures of U.S. presidents and first ladies and had been open for nearly 50 years before its closure in January 2017. The opening reception will include refreshments and desserts, a brief show introduction by the artist, and a live performance by The Labra Brothers. At 6:30 p.m., Dr. Louis A. Zona will be giving a talk for the event, “Art & The Presidents,” examining the relationship between art and commander-in- chief. The show will be on exhibit through Aug. 23. Postcards and magnets will be available for purchase during the reception and show. The McKinley Memorial Museum will be open for tours during the event.
RUN OF THE MILL: The 18th annual Run of the Mill 1-mile foot race will be held June 26 at the McDonald Homecoming Festival off Ohio Avenue. The 1-mile downhill run along Ohio Avenue to the McDonald Steel Mill will begin at 5:45 p.m. June 26 at the center of village. Entry fee is $15 pre-registration and $20 day of the race. CHECKER TOURNAMENT: The John Peters Checkers Tournament will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Woodland Park pavilion in McDonald. Tournament registration begins 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.
