MEN’S SYMPOSIUM: A Men’s Symposium themed “Courageously Confronting Present Realities in the Black Community” will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Restoration Christian Life Ministries, 403 Atlantic St., Warren.

The event will include panelists Elder Glenn D. Matlock, the Rev. Robert L. Stringer, Larry C. Johnson (principal), Robert Davis (educator), Apostle Everett A. Whiteside, the Rev. Orneil Heller, the Rev. Todd Johnson, Prophet Roland Barksdale-Hall, DeMaine Kitchen (president of Youngstown City Council), Thomas Conley (president / CEO of Warren-Youngstown Urban League), the Rev. Eric U. Brown Sr. and Minister Mario Hainesworth.

DRESSES FOR HAITI: Corner House Christian Church, 6854 Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard, will hold its Little Dresses for Haiti program 10 a.m. today. Participants will make dresses for children in Haiti.

BANNER BLESSING: Leaders and congregants of the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1150 Elm St., Youngstown, will gather to commemorate the installation of a Black Lives Matter banner 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the historic north side church immediately following services. The banner represents a public statement of the church’s commitment to racial justice. The Rev. Joseph Boyd will lead a short ceremony.

HE SAY, SHE SAY: New Jerusalem Fellowship, 2555 Palmyra Road SW, Warren, will hold a candid discussion about relationships “He Say, She Say” 5 p.m. Sunday. Topics include what does it mean to fall in love, what is the No. 1 problem in relationships and why do people get married. The Black History Month presentation is for adults only.

BLACK HISTORY EVENT: Third Christian Church will host its annual Black History Month celebration and cake walk 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave.

PARISH TASTE FESTIVAL: St. Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St., Hubbard, will hold a “Taste of Our Festival” 5 to 8 p.m. March 2 featuring food of the annual summer festival. County Mayo band will perform. Admission is free.

INSTALLATION: Mount Olive Baptist Church, 385 Martin Luther King Blvd., will hold the installation of their new pastor, the Rev. Corneill D. Morgan of Liberty, 11 a.m. March 3. Guest speaker is the Rev. Mack S. Thompson, associate minister of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Guest speaker for the afternoon installation service at 3:30 p.m. is Elder Mark Jackson from the Word Church, Cleveland.

WOMEN’S DAY: Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. SW, will celebrate Women’s Day with a play “Women, Yes We Are Sisters” at noon March 2 at the church. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling the church at 330-394-6270.

GOSPEL SINGER: The First Baptist Church of Warren DBA the First Church of Warren, 3217 Surrey Road SE, Warren, will have gospel singer Prophet Larry Orrell at the 10:45 a.m. March 10 service. The church was established in 1803.

Orrell has been a gospel singer for more than 30 years and has established Larry Orrell International Ministries. He is a past member of the Gospel Music Association Board of Directors.

BEATLES MASS: The eighth annual Beatles Mass “Here Comes the Son” will be March 2 at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. Warren. Live music will be performed by the Mainstreet Lions. The event begins at 3:30 p.m. with praise and worship and Holy Eucharist at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff Baker as celebrant. A chili cookoff will follow at 5 p.m. People can bring their own instruments.

FIRST FRIDAY: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will meet 11:30 a.m. March 7 at Avion on the Water on Western Reserve Road in Canfield. Speaker is the the Rev. James Korda, pastoral director of CTNY, who will speak on “CTNY: History of the Diocese of Youngstown.” For information and tickets, call 330-720-4498.

MOVIE MATINEE: Newton Falls Church of the Nazarene, 520 N. Canal St., will present a movie matinee “God’s Not Dead: A Light in the Darkness” 1 p.m. March 9.

PASSION PLAY: “Telestai,” a musical passion play produced by Cleveland Performing Arts Ministries and marking its 42nd season, will be 8 p.m. March 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. March 10 at Champion Christian Church, 151 Center St. West. “Telestai” means “it is finished” in Greek and refers to the last words Jesus spoke before his death on the cross. Featuring a cast of more than 100, the play’s dramatic stage production and music bring the story of Christ’s trial, execution and resurrection to life.

There is no admission charge; an offering will be taken after each performance. The presentation includes a short intermission and a reception afterward where audiences can meet and mingle with the cast and crew.

MEMBER PREPARATION: Within the six-county Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, 202 men, women and children from 51 parishes are preparing to become members of the Catholic Church at Easter. Eighty-six people will receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil on April 20; and 116 persons who already have been baptized in other Christian traditions will make a profession of the Catholic faith and receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

On the First Sunday of Lent, March 10, these persons will celebrate the Rite of Election at 1:30 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown or 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Canton. During these rites, they will be presented to Bishop George V. Murry. During the Rite of Election, godparents, sponsors and members of the assembly are asked to attest to the readiness of these men, women and children for the Sacraments of Initiation. The candidates will then continue their final preparation for Easter in parishes throughout the diocese.

CHURCH PLANS TOUR: St. Stephen Parish, Niles, has arranged a bus trip “Holy Pittsburgh” on May 2 that will include visits to St. Anthony Chapel in Troy Hill, Old St. Patrick Church and St. Stanislaus Church, both in Pittsburgh. The cost is $49 per person and includes deluxe motor coach transportation, a guided tour of St. Anthony Chapel and other admissions and church donations. The tour will depart St. Stephen Church at 8 a.m. and return at 6 p.m.

CHOIR FESTIVAL: The Diocese of Youngstown will participate in the 2019 American Federation Pueri Cantores Pittsburgh Choir Festival and Mass March 30 at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh. The event will serve as the annual Diocesan Youth Choir Festival and all parish and school youth choirs are invited to participate.

Several hundred students from the Pittsburgh, Erie, Greensburg, Wheeling and Youngstown dioceses are expected to join in the event, which culminates in the celebration of the vigil liturgy at 6 p.m. at St. Paul Cathedral.

The Rev. David A. Zubik, bishop of Pittsburgh, will be the main celebrant at Mass. The director of the Festival is Paul French, nationally known music director at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Chicago.

All students of the diocese in grades 4-12 are welcome to participate.
